Time is Running Out for Live-Lining

Fishing is fantastic currently.  We are catching live Spot for bait and then using these live baits with light tackle to catch limits of Striped Bass (a.k.a. “Rockfish”).  This is a LOT of fun as the action can be fast and furious such as  15 rockfish caught in less than 10 minutes.   This type of fishing won’t be available for much longer though.  Once the bait leaves the mid Bay, this method is finished for the year.  We are also still catching some Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel.  They too are likely on their migration south.   Give us a call or email today to take advantage of the light tackle bite while it lasts.

Live-Lining in Full Swing

We’ve been catching light-tackle-limits of Striped Bass with some Blues mixed in while live bait fishing in the mid Chesapeake Bay.   Bottom-Fishing for eating-size Spot and White Perch has also been excellent.  August was one of Last Hurrah’s busiest month’s ever and we are now booking up for September.  Come on out and fish with us!

Live-Lining Limits

Fishing is outstanding right now and our live bait finally arrived!  We are catching limits of striped bass live-lining with light tackle.  We are also catching large Bluefish and a few Spanish Mackerel.  For you bottom-fishing fans, the White Perch and Spot fishing is right!  We caught 360 on a half-day trip the other day.  August is one of our busiest months ever, but we have a few trips open and Sept. has plenty of openings.  We do full and half-day trips with both morning and afternoon departure options.  We do not take singles or do make-up/mixed-group trips so please do not call to ask about them.  One group hires the whole boat and we can take up to 6 passengers.  Come on out and enjoy one “Last Hurrah” on the Chesapeake before the Summer is over.

Mixing it Up in the Upper Bay

We’ve been too busy fishing to post a report for a while.  The catching continues to be very good especially when excessive crowds aren’t present.  We are boxing limits of Rockfish on every trip along with Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel.  In addition, bottom-fishing for Spot and White Perch have improved.  Customers have been enjoying a mixed bag and lots of action during their trips.

Rockfishing Continues to be Excellent

Another summer of big Rock.  Trolling and Chumming are still producing limits of Striped Bass (a.k.a. Rockfish).  We’ve been boxing limits of unseasonably large Stripers up to 37 inches.  Hopefully, the Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish will be here soon.  We have a few dates in July left.  Give us a call.

Burning Fuel to Find the School

Long runs and big diesel-fuel bills have been paying off for The Last Hurrah.  She has been busy chasing down limits of quality Striped Bass in the Upper Chesapeake Bay.  We’ve also had some good perch fishing recently.  Bluefish are now here and their numbers should increase at the summer progresses.  We have just a few July dates available and about half of August left to book.  Give us a call or email today to reserve your trip.  Here are some pics of the fun from the last week….

Chesapeake Rockfishing at its Finest

The live bait still hasn’t made an appearance, but that hasn’t stopped us from smashing big Striped Bass (a.k.a. “Rockfish”) on almost every trip for the last six weeks.   The action has been exciting to say the least with multiple hook-ups commonplace.  There have  been a few occasions when we hooked 25-28 Rockfish simultaneously!  On average, the grade of fish has been unusually large for summertime residents with many trips yielding several 33+ inch fish!  Avoiding the ignorant, fish-spooking crowds has been crucial to success.  Fish are wild animals and will not tolerate hundreds of boats running circles over them making a racket.   Some White Perch are starting to make an appearance and the word down the Bay is that Bluefish are headed our way.  Here are some pics from the last week….

Summertime Fishing on the Chesapeake Bay

Fishing is red hot on the middle and upper Chesapeake Bay right now.  Last Hurrah Charters has caught 26 consecutive Striped Bass limits and catching 5 to 25 fish simultaneously is commonplace.  Some White Perch are starting to arrive, and they are providing bottom-fishing opportunities as well.   Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel should migrate in a little later in the summer.

Last Hurrah Charters is currently booking its remaining dates for July & August.  Contact us today to book your DAY ON THE BAY!

Whackin & Stackin

Fishing in the middle Chesapeake Bay continues to be off the charts for those in the know.  We have been catching  limits of 21 to 34 inch Rockfish on every trip for weeks now.  The action is usually fast & exciting with several multiple hook-ups being the norm.  We have just a few June dates left.  Come get in on the fun!
