Fishing is as good as it gets right now!

Trophy Season may be over but we are still hammering fast limits of big fish.  The bite has been crazy lately with a beautiful grade of 20-34 inch striped bass chomping on lures as fast and furious as the anglers can handle.  June is getting pretty full, but we still have a few dates left to book.  Here are some catches from the last few trips…

Summer Rockfishing on the Chesapeake

The weather is getting nice and the fishing couldn’t be any better.  Large schools of fat, resident Rockfish are feeding aggressively and providing fast and furious action for anglers.  We have been catching our limit of fish up to 34 inches quickly each trip and releasing 10-20 more while bringing in the rig.  Weekdays are much better fishing since the weekends find the Bay packed with ignorant crowds.  Last Hurrah Charters still has prime June dates available but they are going quickly.

Resident Rockfish Roundup

The 2016 Trophy Rockfish Season was an interesting one.  Strange weather patterns, an abnormal migration and excessive boating and tug traffic all presented challenges.  Despite the fog, fronts and frustration, Last Hurrah Charters caught a lot of trophy fish and boxed quite a few limits.  Starting tomorrow, (Monday, May 16th), the creel limit doubles and the rockfish only need to be 20-inches.  These resident, non-spawning stripers travel in schools and the action can be fast-n-furious with frequent hook-ups of 5-20 fish simultaneously.  The next few months are booking up so don’t delay in making your reservation for some mid Bay striped bass fun!

Big Rockfish are Snapping

The 2016 Trophy Rockfish Season is well under way.  The first few days were a little challenging, but post-spawn fish are now coming out of the tributaries and into the main stem of the Chesapeake Bay.  Fishing has been absolutely phenomenal the last few days with fast limits of big fish.  We’ve had several charters with all the fish being over 40-inches.  We’ve had a handful over 45-inches as well.   Fishing should stay hot for a few weeks.   We have just a few openings left to fill.   Give us a call or email asap to book your trip.  Here are some pics from the last week…

2016 Trophy Rockfishing Season on the Chesapeake Bay

The 2016 Maryland Striped Bass Season is right around the corner and we are gearing up for another fish-filled spring on the Chesapeake Bay.   Last Hurrah Charters only has a handful of prime dates left to fill.  We can take a max of 6 passengers and we collect a deposit to reserve each trip.

70% to 90% of the entire Atlantic migratory stock of striped bass spawn in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.  As these large, migrators travel up and down they Bay to complete their spawning ritual, savvy anglers have the opportunity to land the fish of a lifetime.  20-30 pound fish are common and 40-50 pounders come over the rail on occasion.  We troll 26-30 rods at a time targeting singles and small packs of stripers since they are not schooled up like they are at other times of the year.   Quality equipment, proper rigging, and experienced boat handling make the difference when fooling these clever giants.

Last Hurrah charters is working hard every day painting, cleaning, waxing, repairing and rigging to ensure that everything is perfect on board and that your spring trophy rockfish experience is one to remember fondly for a lifetime.   Ladies and children are welcome so bring the family,  co-workers, buddies, neighbors or clients and get in on the action.

Give us a call or email soon while there’s still availability and book your day on the Bay.
