It was HOT this week. And by that, I mean the weather, not the the fishing. I utilized a combination of live-lining and trolling to catch my rockfish this week. For the most part, it wasn’t easy but I did connect with some breaking fish a few times. There are still a few bigguns around too.
Didn’t get out as much as normal this week. Reports have been mixed. On Friday, I live-lined with small Spot. The bite was far from stellar, but after some moves and tricks we caught all of our rockfish and had a fun time doing it.
Fishing picked up a bit this week. Most of us focused on trolling and covering ground to find the fish. The fish were on the move and finicky, but once we dialed it in each day, success followed.
This week was nothing to write home about. Fishing became suddenly difficult when the Stripers decided to go on a hunger-strike. Most boats alternated between live-lining and trolling since even the live bait was tough to locate. When the fish did eat, it was a brief window of opportunity. The bite will surely turn back on soon!
This week saw some a mixture of patterns and techniques. Most of the week was spent deploying lures deep on the troll. However, there were some breaking fish on a few occassions making for exciting surface-action. Yesterday, we ran our first live-bait trip of the year. It took us 4 hours to catch our live Spot for bait but only 25 minutes to limit-out on nice rockfish. The live-lining has begun!

This week had some windy days mixed in, but the fishing was well worth it. I ran several trips this week and we limited out on rockfish in short-order each morning. After catching our rockfish, we had pretty decent success bottom-fishing for croaker and spot.

Brady Family Outing
I had to mate on a friend’s boat a few days this week, so the Hurrah didn’t get out too much. The fishing was a bit unpredictable, but productive with a little persistence. On Friday, I took David Greenlee and friends out and we found some nice sized fish. Here are the pics…
Fishing was pretty good this week, and close to home to boot. We continued trolling deep for resident striped bass in the 20 to 24 inch class. We had to wait ’em out some days, but overall, no complaints.
The fishing was wide-open this week! We didn’t have to run far most days to catch rockfish on the troll. The highlight of the week was taking out Mike Ebersberger of Anglers and the D.U. “Duckettes.” These ladies were excited to catch fish and they were a blast to have onboard. It turns out, they can crank in fish as well as they can sell raffle tickets! Here are some pics from that day…
This week yielded good numbers of resident stripers (rockfish) in the 18 to 24 inch class with an occassional fish exceeding 30″. The fish were moving fast but once we found them, it was fast and furious action! We didn’t fish every day, but caught limits on the days we did. A few boats in the fleet also connected with some big, black drum.
