Weekly Report 6/6-6/12

Fishing is as good as it gets!!  Rockfish are thick if you know where to look and the fleet has been crushing them all week.  There are some nice size “overs” around too.  We caught our limit of 13 rockfish in about an hour and a half while trolling on Friday.  (It would have been even faster but the tide was screaming.)  The biggest was 32 inches and a few other big fish straightening out hooks.  Now is the time to go.  Trolling and live-lining are off the chain!  Call to book.

Spot are here and it’s TIME to LIVE-LINE!

The Spot have shown up and it’s game-on!   Nice sized rockfish are being caught live-lining these lively baits.  Trollers did well too this weekend.  White perch and Croaker were caught as well.  Everything is heating up, including the weather.

The rockfish tried to be elusive this morning.    “Tried”.

At 10:00, we had fished all over the mid-Bay and only had 2 in the cooler…..however; by 10:45, we had all 13 for the limit boxed and threw back a few while picking up the rig.  Good thing too—we had my good friend and client, Ben Harries of Builder Guru Contracting on the boat.

 Here’s a pic of the damage….

Friday, May 27th—BIG DRUM!

Had a great group of guys this morning which included two friends of mine.  We caught our limit of rockfish by 8:00 a.m.,  and then headed for the Black Drum fishing grounds.  We caught 2 nice black drum that weighed 62 and 51 pounds!!!

Saturday, May 21st

Well, this season has been all about really nice customers and good fishing aboard The Last Hurrah….this afternoon was no exception!  We left the dock around 1:30 this afternoon with 4 guys and 2 gals eager to catch some fish.  Within about an hour of fishing, we had boated their limit of 12 rockfish, plus lucky #13 for the boat.  I think the ladies surprised themselves at how well they battled their fish.  They did a great job!   The fish were all legal size with a few in the 25 – 27 inch range.  The seas were flat calm and the weather was perfect.  Great afternoon on the Chesapeake Bay!

Tuesday, May 17th

Ran afternoon trip today with some great guys.  We boated our 13-fish limit and had a few nice “overs” despite 30 kts winds and some  rough seas.  The limit is now 2 per person with one for the boat and they have to be 18-inches.   These fish are fast and fun.  Call to book!

Sunday, May 15th

Had Bill and MPT boys out this a.m.  Tough fishing at first and we endured a few hours without a bite.  I kept searching and eventually we put the smack-down on some nice stripers!  Within an hour, we boated our limit of 6 overs, lost one and then caught and released 5 more overs trying to bring in the rig.  We also caught some resident fish.  Good to see those smaller fish as the limit changes Monday.

Thursday May 12th

Whack, stack and come on back!  The fishing was red-hot tonight!!  We could not even get all 27 rods out before catching our limit.  One of the best bites of the season.  We could have a few more weeks of good fishing ahead.  Book a date now!

Wed. May 11th

Another trip for the BGC boys and another limit of rockfish!   These guys are always a great group.  The weather was perfect and the fishing was pretty steady.

Saturday, May 7th Report

Saturday was my birthday and the fish-gods gave me calm weather and nice rockfish limits for both my morning and afternoon charter trips!  The water was stained and the bite was tough, but we managed to limit-out on both trips right at the end.  My mate, Capt. Kenny, calls it “Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat” 😉  The fish were a good grade too….up to 42 inches.  Great day.

The Hurrah has now caught limits on 8 of the last 9 trips!  Here are some pics….
